Coaching

The Clubs Coaching Committee launched a Coaching Manual for our Clubs Coaches in January 2010. A lot of work has gone into this manual and all club Coaches are encouraged to use it in the coming season.

If you would like a copy you can now download it from the bottom of this note. To open the file you will need a password which you can get from either Alan Moran 086 668 1556 or Tony Nally 086 150 6525.

Games Development

Recognising the important role of player and game development, the Club has made efforts to nurture our young players to enable them to gain the most from the game.

A vibrant juvenile section caters for our younger players with the club being able to field two teams in most grades. This is to ensure that our players get regular games after all their training and efforts. The Club appointed Jimmy Gavin as the Coaching and Development Officer. With Jimmy's efforts has come the introduction of the Go Go Games method of coaching, and also an annual summer camp.

Our senior section has been fielding a third team over the past four years which allows the younger players to learn from our more experienced players. It also gives a better opportunity for emerging talents to be given the chance of playing at the highest grade. The seniors normally bring in extra help with training in the form of professional trainer or other people to help prepare the team and players for competitions.

The Ladies teams have benefited greatly over the past number of years thanks to club member Mick O'Connell who coached the Galway Seniors to their All-Ireland victory in 2004. Mick brought new coaching methods and routiens to the teams.

All of our coaching and development is complemented by the great array of other club members who coach and train all our teams. Many of these members have come from a senior football background both within and outside of Galway and their commitment, skills and dedication help give all our players a great environment to excel and enjoy Gaelic Fotball.
