The Claregalway senior ladies team travelled to Dingle at the weekend to take part in the 2016 Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé. In the opening game on Saturday, Claregalway had an easy win over an under strength local team (Corca Dhuibhne) on a 9 - 6 to 1 - 3 scoreline. The second game against Confey from Leixlip was closer than the final scoreline suggests as Claregalway seemed in trouble at half time leading by just 0-7 to 1-0 having played with a gale force wind in the first half. But an outstanding second half team performance kept the Kildare girls scoreless and a vital goal mid way through the half saw Claregalway win by 1-11 to 1-0. The girls moved on to the Gallarus pitch, home of An Ghaeltacht club, on Sunday for the final against Southern Gaels, Kerry. Playing with the aid of a very strong wind in the first half, Claregalway built up a 5-6 to 1-1 half time lead with the unstoppable Megan Glynn leading the attack in style. The Kerry girls, aided by a gale, laid siege to the Claregalway goal early in the second half but a brilliant defence marshalled by Hannah Coen in goal, full back Amy Rohan and the outstanding Fabienne Cooney at centre back kept them at bay while the Claregalway forward line tagged on a few goals to finish the game on a scoreline of 8-10 to 1-4. Pádraig Óg Ó Sé presented the cup to the Claregalway captain Charlotte Cooney after the game while Megan Glynn received the Player of the Tournament award.
